Seminar Topic: Improving Exposure Judgments, presented by Brent Altemose
Best practices for modern industrial hygiene programs include the use of statistical tools to analyze exposure data and support sound professional judgment. This seminar will explore different tools and approaches, discuss their advantages and limitations, and provide practical recommendations for when and how to apply them effectively.
Speaker Bio: Brent Altemose PhD, CIH, CSP
Brent Altemose is the Owner and Principal Consultant at ALTIH LLC and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Ocean County College. He has 30 years of experience in exposure science, industrial hygiene, and workplace safety, with expertise in exposure control, exposure assessment strategies and modeling, statistical analysis of industrial hygiene data, local exhaust and laboratory ventilation, and indoor air quality. He has been a member of AIHA and ACGIH’s Improving Exposure Judgements Advisory Group since 2022 and served as chair of the group from May 2025 to May 2026.
Guest Speaker: Barbara Dawson, MS, CIH, CSP, FAIHA
Barbara Dawson is the former Global Occupational Hygiene Competency Leader at DuPont, where she was recognized as an EHS Laureate. She has served as Chair of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and President of the national American Industrial Hygiene Association, as well as President of several local AIHA sections. She received the American Chemistry Council Member Company Responsible Care Employee of the Year Award in 2020 and is currently an independent consultant.
Guest Speaker: Gus Ruggiero, CSP, CIH
Gus Ruggiero is an EHS Specialist at Agilent Technologies in Newport, Delaware. He holds BS and MS degrees in Environmental Science from Drexel University, with a specialization in industrial hygiene, and is board certified in Safety and Industrial Hygiene as a CSP and CIH.
Gus has more than 40 years of health and safety experience at both corporate and site levels, including consulting, asbestos compliance, petrochemical work with Sunoco and Johnson Matthey, and current EHS responsibilities at Agilent Technologies in Newport, Delaware, and North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
He has been a career-long member of AIHA, including service as a director for the Philadelphia Section and currently with the Delaware Section. His experience includes developing emergency response protocols and real-time monitoring plans, as well as improving practical plans based on real chemical emergency response experiences.
