Aloha, welcome to the Hawaii Local Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. We are an association of professionals involved in recognizing, evaluating, and controlling health hazards that can impact workers in any industry. As a professional organization, there are three key areas we work in to support our members, our profession, and our community:
Training – As in any profession, it’s critical to keep up with current trends and developments that could impact our ability to protect workers. In support of this, we offer highly discounted access to a wide range of online webinar topics. Based on member interest, we also arrange periodic in-person training sessions and health and safety oriented tours of different government and commercial facilities in Hawaii.
Networking – Making and maintaining connections with other practicing professionals is critical to our ability to effectively meet the needs of the workers our profession is responsible for helping to protect. To help facilitate this, the Local Section organizes periodic social events where members can share problems they’re having, get input, or just connect with new people.
Outreach –There remains a chronic under appreciation for the importance of being safe and staying healthy at work, and our Association is uniquely qualified to help push back against this inanity. In conjunction with efforts already initiated by the AIHA-national, we are aiming to begin working with high schools to provide awareness training to students before they graduate. New workers have the highest rates of injury by far, and this is a simple step that we can take to genuinely make a difference.
Whether you are in the industrial hygiene profession, or do something else that’s related, we invite you to learn new things, grow new relationships, and affect positive change in our local community.
