March 13, 2020 – House Bill 722 passed in the senate unanimously!

The Maryland State Senate unanimously passed House Bill 722, which would call on the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Board to develop and adopt regulations protecting workers from heat-related illness on or before October 1, 2022. The bill now heads to the governor, who is expected to sign it into law. The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) has been a strong supporter of this legislation. Several of our members testified before legislative committees to help advance it and educate legislators on the importance of protecting workers from hashtag#heatillness and hashtag#heatstress. Special thanks go to AIHA members Scott Schneider and Veronica Stanley, MSPH, CIH, CSP, CESCP for their tireless work on this legislation!
