SB 553 was signed into law in September 2023 and codified in Labor Code 6401.9. This addresses new requirements for Workplace Violence Prevention Plans and directs Cal/OSHA to enforce this Labor Code requirement until such time as Cal/OSHA regulations are in place. The requirements for written plans and employee training will be in effect as of July 1, 2024. Read more.
2024 President’s Message
My president’s message for 2024 is simple -- we need to re-engage!! The effects of the COVID lock down have been protracted and disruptive for in-person events and engagement with others in general. Our local section has not been immune from these effects. How long has it been since you saw your colleagues in person?? We are already planning three technical meetings over lunch for February, March and April. These meetings are an excellent opportunity to say hello, network, and attend a timely technical presentation for CM points.
If you are interested in helping the local section in any capacity, please let me know. There are some volunteer opportunities listed below for your consideration. We are looking for locations for an OEHS tour this summer/fall. Do you know a facility that will let a bunch of health and safety professionals have a behind the scenes look at their operations? We are also interested in your input for technical presentations. Would you like to present or have you heard an especially good technical presentation recently that we should invite to our next meeting? Let me know! This is your local section and your ideas are always welcome, so please reach out!
I'm happy to report that we have a full board of directors for the first time in 3 years, which includes two members who are new to the local section and the leadership!! I am incredibly happy to welcome them and excited to work with all the Board members for a productive year. I am thankful for your support and confidence in electing me to the President position. Volunteer Opportunities!
Calling all local section members to assist with short-term volunteer opportunities! As part of our mission to enhance involvement with local section activities and to improve communication with all members, the Board is recruiting volunteers for the following activities:
- Assisting with social media sites, such as Facebook, X (aka Twitter), Instagram, etc.;
- Assisting with the upcoming events and teaming up with the AIHA-SVS Board members;
- Assisting with obtaining Corporate Sponsorships to enhance the technical sessions for our local section;
- Reaching out to prospective new members and long time local section members to re-engage them with our local section.
