Officers

President: Cary B. Gherman, CIH CSP

Mr. Cary B. Gherman, CIH CSP has over 45 years of experience in developing managing and leading Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for a wide variety of companies including Aerospace, Electronics, Chemical, and Automation industries. Cary received is BS in Environmental Sciences from Rutgers University in 1978 and his MS in Public Health/Industrial Hygiene from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980.

Past President: Michael Breu, CIH

Michael Breu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Iowa and has worked for Fiberquant Analytical Services for 24 years where he serves as their Technical Manager for environmental microbiology and industrial hygiene. Michael is a member of the ASTM D22.08 subcommittee; the AIHA’s Analytical Accreditation Board for laboratory accreditation, an EPA-certified Risk Assessor and is a board-certified industrial hygienist.

President Elect: Dylan Staack

Dylan is the in-house industrial hygienist for REPSS; specializing in helping health and safety professionals select and sample with the proper equipment for their monitoring needs. Dylan spent 3 years at the University of Arizona as a research project manager. His work focused on the respiratory protection of firefighters at various stages of fighting fires. Since, Dylan has worked as an industrial hygiene consultant and has continued to support the University of Arizona with educational session on instrumentation and research equipment.

2nd year Director: Heidi Partlowe, MSPH, CIH, CSP

Heidi Partlowe is a CIH and CSP with twenty years of experience in the EHS field currently employed by BD, a medical device products manufacturer, as the Global EHS Sr. Manager. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Environmental Health Science and obtained her MSPH from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She currently serves as the 2nd year Director for the Arizona AIHA local section and has filled numerous other board positions including past president.

1st Year Director: Robyn Steiner, CIH CSP

Robyn Steiner is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional. She is currently employed by Atlas Technical Consultants as a Principal Certified Industrial Hygienist in their Tempe office. She manages the Tempe Industrial Hygiene Department and functions as a technical resource for the other nine Western branches along with coordinating the Atlas Industrial Hygiene group nationwide. Robyn has been working in the field of Industrial Hygiene for over 25 years in both the consulting and private manufacturing sectors. She received her BS in Environmental Science from Boise State University and her Master of Science Public Health (MSPH) from San Diego State University. Robyn is returning to the Arizona AIHA Local Board after an absence of almost twenty years.

Secretary: Sharon Shindel, CIH CSP

Sharon Shindel holds an MS in Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and has worked for Intel Corporation for 26 years. She is a Global Industrial Hygienist focusing on Chemical Management, Hazcom, Inert Gas Safety and Ventilation programs as well as serving on the companies EHS Compliance Assurance Audit team. Sharon is a member of the AIHA Non-Ionizing Radiation Committee. Sharon has received both CIH and CSP certifications.

Secretary-Elect: Krysta Myers, MPH CIH

Krysta Myers is a University of Arizona Graduate with an MPH and most recently a CIH. She is currently employed by Honeywell Aerospace, a Global Fortune 100 Company who manufactures aircraft engines and avionics. In her role as a Health, Safety and Environmental Manger, she ensures compliance with national and company standards to protect the health and safety of those employed onsite. She currently serves as Secretary Elect for the Arizona AIHA local section.

Treasurer: Marie Thorsen

Marie Thorsen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Arizona State University and a Master of Occupational Health with an emphasis in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Utah. She currently works as an Industrial Hygienist for Intel and has previous experience working as an EHS specialist for a department of defense contractor and for a public university. She currently serves as the Treasurer for the Arizona AIHA local section.

Treasurer-Elect: Christina Collins, CIH CSP

Christina Collins is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional. She is currently employed by Central Arizona Project as a Senior Industrial Hygienist and has been working in the field of Industrial Hygiene for over 20 years in both the consulting and government sectors. She received both her BS in Environmental Science and her Master of Public Health from the University of Arizona. She has held positions on the AIHA-Arizona Local Section Board for the past 18 years as Treasurer and Treasurer-Elect.

Student Section Representative: Isaac Roa

Isaac Roa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Hygiene and Safety from Ohio University and is currently completing his last year of a Master of Public Health degree in Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of Arizona. He is working for the University of Arizona’s Research Laboratory and Safety Services department as a Research Safety Specialist, where he is involved in chemical, biological and radiological safety for the University’s research labs, as well as respirator fit testing and hazardous waste management.
