August 12th 2020 - 1-3 PM - Webinar, Legionellosis: Risk and Control, Speaker: Andreas Wagner CIH ROH, Golder Associates, Inc.
Every workplace, industrial establishment, mine, healthcare facility, school, and construction site have water-bearing systems. Every organization occupying a building has a potable and a process water system. Legionella is a bacteria that is ubiquitous and present in water-bearing systems around the globe. Legionellosis is a global reality. As buildings are used, as they begin to age, as they undergo renovation and / or as they are connected to municipal water systems, Legionella contamination of water sources is also a reality. However, there are practical and necessary technical solutions available in this regard. The comprehensive and thorough risk assessment of water-bearing systems identifies elements of these systems, and their management, that require attention and mitigating controls, including design solutions such was water treatment. A water management program including preventative measures enables owners and occupants to effectively manage these water-bearing systems in a proactive manner. Recent emphasis on conducting Legionella Risk Assessments has focused on healthcare facilities where higher risk occupants are typically present. This presentation will discuss how any facility can conduct a proactive risk assessment for the presence of Legionella in their water systems. Case studies will be presented that highlight how these assessments can then be used to successfully implement practical solutions to minimize exposures to Legionella and other waterborne pathogens to building occupants.
Andreas Wagner is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) and has over 30 years of consulting experience. Andreas has completed numerous water damage and mold assessments of buildings in the commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors and developed associated remediation plans. Andreas also routinely conducts assessments and peer reviews of reports detailing microbial assessment results and remediation plans on litigation cases in the USA and Canada and has provided expert testimony in court and participated in depositions on these subject matters. In addition, Andreas has extensive experience in conducting Legionella Risk Assessments in various facilities and in developing Water Management Plans to minimize the risk of Legionella and other waterborne pathogens amplification in building water systems.
