AIHA Gulf Coast Bylaws summary
Membership
Full – may serve on committee and vote
Student - may serve on committee and vote
Honorary – may serve on committee and vote, not required to pay dues
Retired - not required to pay dues
Any National AIHA member may become a local section member subject to Executive Committee
Executive Committee must approve release of membership data
Executive Committee meetings
Every other month, with at least four per year
Special meetings called by President with approval of Executive Committee
Notice of time and place of meeting delivered 10 days before date of meeting
50% of Executive Committee is quorum
Each member of Executive Committee gets one vote
Executive Committee may be called at discretion of President with 5 days’ notice
Elections
Ballots posted in February, installation in March
Election in March
Give notice of newly elected Officers and Directors to National AIHA with 30 days of election
Ballots distributed by Secretary in February
Plurality of votes cast in election or referendum is considered will of membership
In case of tie vote, majority vote of Executive Committee will resolve
Officers and Directors (aka Executive Committee)
Each serves a two-year term
President-elect automatically succeeds President upon completion of term
Perform duties delegated by Executive Committee or assigned by President
Past President is director for one year term
Four additional Directors are elected, two on alternate years for a term of two years
President of Local Student Section also serves as a Director to represent interests of Local Student Section at Executive Committee meetings
Serves a leadership role on at least one of the committees
Vacancy for any officer or director, except President-elect, may be filled by Executive committee for rest of unexpired term
Vacancy of President-elect, Nominations & Awards Committee will nominate at least two people to fill vacancy and a special election will be called.
Any Officer or Director may be removed by majority vote of Executive Committee

Attend National AIHA leadership workshop
Appoints all committees and all members of the committees.
Ex officio member of all committees
Serve as representatives to AIHA Local sections Council (held during AIHCE)
Serves in absence of President if needed

Attend National AIHA leadership workshop

Obtain reimbursement from National AIHA for officer attendance at annual Leadership Workshop

Inform National AIHA of new local section Officers
Maintains membership directory

Committees
Committee appointments are one year
Two types: operating committee (essential) and auxiliary committee (needs based)
Operating committees – Program, Nominations & Awards, and Membership
Auxiliary committees – Continuing Education, Regulatory & Public Affairs, and Audit
President-elect is chair
Responsible for tentative schedule of programs for the year
Identify technical topics of interest for presentation at local section meetings
Consists of two members appointed by President
A Director serves as chair, other member must be past officers or directors
Committee nominates at least two people for each elected office and submits nominations to Executive Committee
Nominations presented to membership during last meeting of calendar year
Floor nominations are accepted at that time as well
Oversee Hammond Award and scholarship endowment selection process
Calendar of committee milestones is in procedures section
Awards
James Hammond – current student or graduate
Science Fair Award – high school student
Honorary memberships
President appoints a Director, who serves as chair, and one other local section member

Provide membership information and recruit new members
Provide semi-annual report on membership to Secretary
Semi-annual report with membership stats
A Director is chair appointed by President and one local section member

Advise Executive Committee on regulatory developments at state and national level
Provide guidance to local section reps to Texas IH Council
Arrange participation in Houston Science Fair and present Science Fair award
Establish speakers’ bureau for use in local business and professional meetings
A Director is chair appointed by President and volunteer members
Identify continuing education events for the local section membership
Provide IH review course for those wanting to site for CIH
Members – President-elect and Secretary
Perform annual audit
Monitor expenditures and ensure proper use of funds
Engage outside auditor if needed
Gross receipts exceeding $50k require outside auditor
Appointed by President as needed
President appoints a chair and one other local section member
Not significantly overlap with objectives of other committees
Expires no later than one year after appointment
Public statements
No public statements without consent of AIHA board of Directors
Refrain from taking positions on public issues
Amendments
Bylaws amended by two-thirds vote of current membership who respond to e-mail ballot

Provided by local section member
Provide and facilitate employment opportunities in IH profession
